Straus's Story

Life I am a 1966 Graduate of Anne Chesnutt High School. After graduating I went to Worth Business College, Fayetteville, NC. 1966-1967...pursuing business courses. While this was not a 2 or 4 year school, it proved to be a great choice for me. It launched my foray into computers. In April 1967,I went to St. Albans,NY. I stayed with my Aunt Evelyn Gober. She named me...LOL...I found a job and accepted a position with the Metropolitian Life Insurance Company, NYC., in their Computer Operations Division, 1967-I968. My classmate, Anna Lovett, was also working at Met Life at that time. In May 1968,I enlisted in the United States Air Force, and after Basic Training, I was assigned to Wright Patterson, AFB, Oh. I really loved living in Ohio. I was assigned to The Aeronautical System Division (ASD), which was part of NASA. My duties in the Air Force were in the area of Computer Operations. I was stationed at Wright Patterson AFB, from 1968 - 1972. I really owe a lot by going to Worth Business College, after high school, in helping me get into the area of Computer Operations. By attending this school, I was able to get my position, with Met Life, and also, in the Air Force and a job in the military in computers. I got married in 1972, to Mattieree Shaw, of Saint Pauls, NC. We were married for 12 years, no children.... I enlisted in the Air Force Reserves, 1977, and remained until 1995. I attained the rank of Senior Master Sergeant, E-8. I retuned to Fayetteville, in 1977. I went to Fayetteville State University, and graduated in 1979. I graduated Magna Cum Laude. I joined Eastman Kodak Co., in 1979, as a Parts Panning Specialist. I stayed with Eastman Kodak until 1996. While an employee at Eastman Kodak, I held several positions. Inventory Planner, Special Projects Coordinator, Field Parts Planner, Projects Parts Coordinator, and Inventory Management. In Jan 1997, Eastman Kodak, sold their Copier Sales and Services Divisions to Danka Office Imaging Co. At Danka, my position was Senior Buyer Planner. I remained with them until I was laid off in March 2006. I married Juanita Carroll Ennet, also a 1966, graduate of Anne Chesnutt High School. We were married 6 years. We divorce in 1995. Presently I am single, and I plan to stay this way. I've found that being married is not for me. I have a very strong personality. Few people can tolerate a personality such as mine, so I have decided not to place it on anyone else ...or subject them to having to live with me. I enjoy my freedom, and my dog....Lady Diana Ross. In February, 2007, I purchased a house off Rim Rd....Hunters Crossing South...My plans were to purchase a condo, however, the builder I was working with, took too long. I was staying with my parents, and we were getting on each other's nerves...LOL. It is very difficult to return home after 40 years. No matter, how old you are, parents think they can treat you like children...LOL..That is okay if you are a child, but not if you are a mature adult...In order to expedite my removal, I moved into my own place, I purchased a house instead of the condo. So far, this has proved to be a good choice. My beloved mother was right. A house is better, because you have more room. For one thing, you get more bang for your buck, in a house than a condo, of comparable price range. Perhaps I will still get the condo later. Presently I am trying to get the house in working order. There is so very much to do, when you purchase a new home. This is my major projec...Expand for more
t for the next few years. College I enrolled at Fayetteville State Universtity in the fall of 1977. I graduated in the summer of 1979. From September 1973 - July 1976, I was stationed at the Pentagon, Arlington, Virginia. I went on to serve at Griffis, AFB, Rome, NY, and Niagara Falls, IAP, Niagara Falls, NY. Air Force Reserves August 1976 -August 1995 Duty at the following Places Pentagon, Arlington Va., Griffis, AFB, Rome, NY. Pope AFB, Fayetteville, NC, and Niagara Fall IAP, Niagara Falls, NY I've had the opportunity to visit, Germany, Austria, South Korea, Hondarus, and Australia. Of all the foreign countries I have visited, Australia was the best. I was treated very well. I would like to visit West Africa some day real soon. I had my DNA analyzed, and found that my ancestories come from West Africa. I would like to try to find and visit the village that they came from. I lost my beloved mother, in 2008, and my father in 2014. They are together now. I miss them both. There isn't a day go by that I do not think of my mother. Many of my friends, say that I beginning to look like my mother. Even, my nieces and nephews, often say, Uncle Straus, you remind me of grandma! I think some mornings when I look into the mirror, I can honestly say, "I see mother looking back at me". After my home, my biggest chore, is taking care of my dog, Lady Diana Ross. Lady is something special. When I got her in 2010, she appeared not to like me. She was stubborn as a mule. I finally won her over, one Sunday afternoon. I turned the television up loud, put Lady in the closet, and laid on her. She squirmed and holler, but I held her down. After about 30 minutes, she exhaled loudly, and gave up the fight. After that incident, she has been a very loving and obedient dog. I think she call herself looking after me. Personally, I think she tries to do so, as much as I try to take care of her. A dog is indeed mans best friend....Well Lady is mine. She never seems to get tired of me. No matter what I do or say, Lady is there wagging her tail. Naming her Diana Ross, fits her personality. She still has a very strong personality, and oftentimes, tries to exert it on me. However, when I put my foot down, or respond to her, in a strong tone, she knows I mean business. I am finally enjoying being back in Fayetteville. It has taken me a long time to realized that being home is where I belong in my retirement years. The majority of my family is here. All my brothers have transitioned, and now it my two sisters and I. We are at the top of the chain now. We are the old folks now, I like to tell them. Life is pretty good. God is good. For the most part, he is providing for my needs, for which I am grateful. I think him for his Grace. The retirement from the VA, and my Social Security, is providing me a sense of security, that I have worked so hard for. This again, I thank God for providing this to me.

Really now! I don't think so. I am now in the winter of my years. Too much speed for me...lol...lol..lol.. Comfort, comfort..This is what I seek now.
I would like to think that this is how I truly am.
This is my goal anyway.
I don't know what it means! lol..lol..lol
So true
There is a lot of truth, in this statement. I don't like beating around the bush....get to the point.... Say it and move on.
I am unique...that is for sure. I am different...Time is running out.
Wow! these tests, are quite revealing. I really do not put much fact in them, however, for the most part, they nail me, or come very close... I am slowly becoming a believer....Not.
One of these I really do not like...Guess
